BOXWOOD & BRASS present
a programme of music for SIX WIND instruments.
Firstly the Sextet in E flat major by that most celebrated Viennese master, Herr B E E T H O V E N, latterly called his Seventy-First opus. Composed in 1796 but seemingly not performed until 1805. In FOUR movements: the FIRST an Adagio leading to an Allegro; the SECOND an Adagio particularly featuring the bassoon; the THIRD a Menuetto and Trio marked Quasi Allegretto; and the FINALE a Rondo, in the style of a fast march.
Then, by Mr. Carl Maria von W E B E R, lately living in London, a CONCERTINO for solo HORN, his Forty-Fifth opus, composed originally in 1806 but then revised in 1815 before publication in 1818. To be performed by Ms. ANNEKE SCOTT in a new version, played only once before, with the orchestral accompaniment cunningly re-fashioned for winds by Mr. Robert Percival, bassoonist. The work in one continuous whole, comprising an Adagio introduction, variations on an original theme, a most novel recitativo-cadenza, and concluding with a newly fashionable Polonaise.
Finally, the SYMPHONY in E flat major by Maestro M O Z A R T (his Thirty- Ninth, and catalogued as work number 543 by Dr. Koechel) again reworked for wind instruments by Mr. Percival and also only recently premiered before the public. The work, composed in VIENNA in the Summer of 1788 and first published there in 1797 in FOUR movements, to whit an extended Adagio and Allegro, an Andante marked Con Moto, an Allegretto Menuetto with trio, and ending with an Allegro FINALE.
